A German philanthropist staying in Sri Lanka has been illegally arrested and detained by the officers attached to the Special Task Force (STF) of the Sri Lanka police on 17 th August, 2010 at Siyambalanduwa. He was travelling with his son and his companions in the district of Monaragala. He was detained in the Siyambalanduwa Police Station where fabricated charges of illegal drug trafficking were filed against him. A few months before this incident a powerful Minister of the present Sri Lankan government illegally requested Mr. Michael Kreitmeir to give him Rs. 30 million towards his election campaign and when Mr. Kreitmeir refused he was threatened by the Minister. A report on this specific incident was sent to the German Embassy on 13 March 2010 by the victim.

සෞදියේ රියාද් නුවර පිහිටි සුවිසල් නිවසක ගෘහ සේවිකාවක් ලෙසින් ඇයව සේවයට යොමු කළ අතර එහි නිවෙස් හිමියා, ඔහුගේ බිරිඳ හා දරුවන් පස් දෙනෙකු වාසය කළේය. එම නිවසේ රැකියාවට ගොස් මුල් දින කිහිපයේදී ගෙහිමියන් ආරියවතී මහත්මියට හොඳින් සැලකූවත් ටික කාලයක් ගතවන විට එම තත්වය වෙනස් විය.

The likelihood of terrorists with naval capabilities, resorting to piracy becomes a distinct possibility, stated Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Palitha Kohona, speaking at the Security Council Debate on “The Situation in Somalia – Piracy” yesterday (25 August 2010).

Gaps in the counter measures undertaken at present and due to its lucrative financial advantages, piracy could soon spread its vicious tentacles to other regions, endangering sea lanes and global communications, he stressed.

A collective and a more dedicated international effort must be made to deal with piracy and must ensure that the global community is rid of this problem, Dr. Kohona added.

Rome : An audit team of Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Ministry detected a fraud, misappropriation of Euros 93,000 which was equivalent SLR 13 million in the Sri Lanka’s Mission in Italy. The former Attache who was in charge of Embassy funds was interdicted and further investigation is continuing.

According to Ambassador Hemantha Warnakulasuriya, he received many anonymous calls from the Sri Lankan Diaspora in Italy claiming that the Attache was Bank Rolling to many Tamils as well as to Sinhalese diaspora in Rome.

It has been reported in the media that our women in the Middle East are abused and ill treated. It is reported that many arrive back in Sri Lanka in body bags. These women could be our mothers, sisters and our daughters. No human should be abused or ill treated and it is time to take action.

We should stop sending women to work as domestics. I have the following alternative programmes, that have many positive points.

There could be fast track training / education programmes in different fields, to develop skills, depending on the  persons wishes. One year, fast track, craft training programmes that may be useful are :

Lanka Truth had reported on 28th of July that a woman Army deserter who had called over to Buttala Police station to lodge a complaint regarding a dispute alleged that she was raped by four police officers. Then she was admitted to General Hospital Badulla where she was examined by Consultant Judiciary Medical officer Dr. M. N. Ruhul Haque to whom she has given full-fledged history how she was subjected to this sexual abuse by OIC of Buttala Police Station with the help of three civil policemen. However due to moral ties entire Medico-legal report cannot be published so that some parts which are quoted from the report are published here.

Her full name is Keppetiyagoda Hewamanage Kalpa Ishani. She is 19 years old and lives in Moragalmulla Udugama Galle.

Pitaduwe Siri Dhamma Thero of the Siri Sadhaham Ashramaya in Bellantara (Dehiwala) continues to harass and disturb the lives of innocent people in and around the temple.

Allegations have been leveled against Pitiduwe Thero for using the names of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, his brothers Gotabaya and Basil Rajapaksa and their spouses in order to get all his unlawful work done through state departments and to frighten the neighbourhood into silence, preventing them from reacting against all his unauthorised work.

New Delhi : In a sign of growing Islamic fundamentalism in Kerala, Muslim fanatics in Kerala on Sunday chopped off the right hand of a college lecturer, accusing him of setting a question paper with a derogatory reference to the Prophet.

In this horrific instance of Talibanism, Lecturer T J Joseph who was returning home from church with his mother and sister in Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district, was accosted by the attackers. The family had just got into their car when a van pulled up in front. Around eight people armed with swords and knives emerged and pulled out Joseph after smashing the windscreen. They then chopped off his right hand and stabbed him in the left thigh," said Joseph's sister, Mary Stella, a nun. "When we tried to prevent them, they attacked me and and our mother before exploding bombs and fleeing."
